Brooklyn was the best movie I have seen in years. It is beautiful in its simplicity and sparseness. It is about an Irish Girl’s immigration from Dublin in the 1950s to Brooklyn, NY. The movie is about the fear that accompanies a life change. It is about how the life you envisioned is not necessarily the life you live. Being a transplant from the west coast of the United States to east coast was a shocking change. Although it is within the same country, it is so different. The story we write for ourselves often is not what we originally pictured and that can cause angst.
The scenery was crisp, clean and stunning. The acting was impeccable. Saoirse Roman, who played the main character has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar. I loved that the movie was slow and peaceful. It drew me into its world. When the movie was over, the audience stayed in their seats, then applauded. This movie enhanced my life.
I am traveling to Dublin in April. It will be interesting to see how the city has changed in the last 100 years. What movie has visually inspired you to travel?
